Executives of Birchwood Foods recently invited Mayor Newton and city staff to tour the progress of their new 80,000 square foot facility located on Goshen Springs Rd. As a major supplier of fresh and frozen ground beef patties for national fast-food chains, this $33 million investment is the third major expansion since the company began at this location in 1988.
President/CEO, Dennis Vignieri, Executive VP of Operations and Procurement, John Ruffolo, and Mark Molinaro of Partners in Design met with Mayor Newton and city staff to discuss the progress of the facility and preparations for the January 2020 opening.
Mayor Newton expressed his support for the continued growth of Birchwood Foods. “Birchwood Food’s expansion is great news for the City of Norcross,” he stated. “Their ability to deliver innovative products to market leaders around the country is a win for our community and we are proud of the company’s success.”
A manufacturer for Wendy’s and Burger King restaurants, recently the company won a contract with another major restaurant chain and is expected to produce 60 million lbs of meat/year (or 2.5 million/week). As a result, the company will need approximately 100 new employees.
NorcrossWorks, the city’s talent, workforce, and education program will work with Birchwood to assist in fulfilling the jobs. The company will be hiring for a range of positions from production workers to various supervisory positions. “Our newest economic development tool “NorcrossWorks” will help provide a productive and talented workforce for Birchwood Foods,” stated Mayor Newton.” The purpose of NorcrossWorks is to provide a locally responsive labor solution for employers like Birchwood Foods and is an integral part of developing the city’s economic future.”
In a previous statement to the Gwinnett Daily Post, Birchwood Foods President and CEO Dennis Vignieri said, “This community provides a productive and talented workforce in addition to an excellent geographical location in the Southeast to service our growing customer base. We look forward to many years of continued community growth and partnership with the City of Norcross and Gwinnett County.”
